I often eat out in the Westchester area and I happened to pass by Runa Jewels during lunch today. ?I just so happened to need a new battery for my watch and saw the sign in front of this establishment. ? ?Note: I normally get my watches repaired and batteries changed at a specialty shop about 3 doors down, but I decided to give this place a try because the shop looked kinda rustic.I walked into the store, and a lady with a wonderful ?Jamaican / South African accent greeted me, “HELLO Sterling Silver Pendants! ?Thank you for coming in! ?How can I help you?”. ? I was hooked at hello! ?The shop owner, Marie Omoruyi, asked how she could help me. ?I showed her my watch and told her I needed a new battery. ?She said in her cute little voice, “Nooo problem! ?Give me a minute or two!”. ?Before she dissapeared, I asked her how much. ?She said, “$7 because this is a dress watch”. ? ? *POOF* she was gone in the back of the store and in about 3 minutes, she was back!I handed Marie a $20 bill and she said, “$5.00 please”. ? I said, ‘WHAT?! ? You said $7.00″. ? She responded with, “I like you (as a customer) and it was an easy job… no problem!”. ?I told her that she needs to make a fair buck and I insisted she take $7 for the new battery. ? I made a new friend! ?:)Runa Jewels has been around for the last 10+ years. ?Marie sells all kinds of stuff – earrings CZ jewelry, watches, bracelets, specialty beads, eyeglass holders, etc. ? She is a very down to earth lady with a HUGE heart! ? I explained to her that I normally go a few stores down to get my watches taken care of. ?Now rhinestone jewelry, I have a new go-to place! Thanks, Marie!

My fiance bought my engagement ring from Chris a few months ago. ?We initially found Capri because my cousin did all of the foot work for us through the LA jewelry district because he wanted to get his girl the perfect engagement ring. ?He ended up choosing Capri and since my fiance and I trust his judgment Sterling Silver Bracelets, we went here too. ?We had been to Tiffany’s, Cartier, and another jeweler in Irvine before we came here. ?We had been quoted outrageous amounts for what we were looking for – 2 carat cushion cut with a halo in a french setting. ?Tiffany’s had actually quoted us $100,000 for the ring I liked. ?Obscene. ?So we ended up here and found the perfect diamond first and designed the ring around that. ?I must say, when my fiance proposed to me with the ring I was so overwhelmed with emotion at the fact that a) we were engaged and b) my ring was SO gorgeous that I definitely teared up. ?Every time anyone sees my ring they just tell me how gorgeous it is and how stunning the diamond is. ?Random strangers will stop me and grab my hand all of the time to admire it. ?We did have a couple of hiccups along the way – 2 diamonds falling out of the halo (at separate times) because the prongs holding onto them were too small. ?But all was fixed immediately and at no charge. ?We haven’t had any issues since!PS My cousin’s fiance’s ring is STUNNING as well. ?3 carat cushion cut with rows and rows of diamonds on her band. ?We are both very happy and lucky girls :)
Our experience at Capri Diamond Group was very satisfying. ?Chris was very attentive to my needs, was honest about which engagement diamond would fit within my budget, without trying to sell me anything. ?I compared what Chris was offering me to other jewelry dealers in the area, and his offers edged out everyone else. ?What was most important to me was the feeling that he understood what I needed, quickly, and looked at me with that lens. ?I don’t doubt Chris has very high end clientele, but he treated me with the same attention as I believe he gives to those individuals. ?He is a good businessman, and my decision to stick with him because of his service was not lost on him.
UPDATE 1/3/12: ? I discovered another crooked artifact of this transaction. ?Last Friday I went to two independent jewelers to see what carat rating this ring had. ?Chris of Capri jewelry stated it was 18k gold. ?Both independent place mentioned after testing that it was clearly 14k gold, and not 18k gold. ?WARNING: ?Don’t go to this jewelry shop. ?This is the most crooked transaction I’ve experienced in quite some time. ?The good reviews here may because the folks didn’t know better, it’s a fake review, or maybe they’ve changed their ways…but why risk it…there are plenty of jewelry vendors without someone submitting a one star ratingSUMMARY: ?We’ve dealt with several jewelers and the experience at Capri Jewelry was overall mediocre. ?Despite some buyer’s remorse, we purchased from Capri Jewelry Inc. because they had a ring of desirable style and other factors. ?Chris’ service was initially consistent with other reviews of Chris here, but for some reason really went south after we asked about some charge discrepancies and his poor handling of a really simply matter. ?The main issue was Chris tried to temper the initially acceptable price when he charged us an additional fee without first disclosing this added fee; it’s the first jeweler we encountered who did such a thing. ?The following happened all in a span of a few minutes. The receipt said “Paid for Jewel by visa total including tax.” with one figure of $432.25 after my credit card was swiped. ?The quoted price was $380. ?I asked why was the total more than the local sales tax rate (based on my mental estimates using 10%, which was actually 9.75%) or $417.05. ?Chris, in a patronizing tone, quickly said something like “3% transaction fee and if you do the math you’ll find it to be so.” ?First of all, the math turned out to be 4% and what’s this business of telling me now after you swiped the card and telling me to do the math? ?After some questions, instead of offering us an apology for not first disclosing before running the credit card transaction or offering us payment alternatives, he became defensive and tried to turn things on us by saying he “doesn’t want to business this way” and wanted to refund the entire purchase and rudely reaching out for the receipt. ?A bit later he first refused to let me pay by check (I had a checkbook at the time) so my credit card could be refunded including this 4% fee. ?He said the fee worked out to $8 according to his bad math (it was actually $15.20) and questioned whether it was worthwhile for me to do this. ?Some minutes later he even refused his own original offer to buy the item back but then flip-flopped again to saying just he wanted the item back and would take a loss. ?LOSS? ?For refunding a ring I just purchased a few minutes earlier? ?At this point things were just getting frustrating because Chris was digging himself a hole out of something that could’ve been handled more simply and professionally. ?I ALSO LATER DISCOVERED FROM ANOTHER CUSTOMER IN THE ADJUSTMENT ROOM THEY WERE ONLY CHARGED 9.75% SALES TAX WHEN HE PAID FOR THE ITEM BY CREDIT CARD. ?The manager mentioned margins were so small based on the price we were given as being the reason why we got the fee and other customers didn’t; but there was no explanation why there wasn’t a cash vs. credit price disclosed at first. The manager also said I could pay by check if I came in during the weekday, and later offered me $15, then $20 cash, but by this time experience was in the gutter. ?$15.20 doesn’t sound like much, but there’s something screwy about a business that probably tacks on a few % fees to some of their customers, that adds up to a sizable amount of fleecing everyday. ?It’s also the principle of finding a sneaky charge after the swipe, not offering apologies or ?INITIAL offer to rectify the situation, and having to check Chris’ bad math or question his flip flopping that ruined the experience my fiancee and I should’ve cherished. ?Going against our principles, we still ended up buying because it was very close to closing time of all jewelers in the district when we were there and tight time constraints forced us to buy that day. ?I must say this was the worst retail experience in over a decade for sure, enough that I had to post something about a bad retail experience for the first time ever. ?The only good part was the friendly service of the artisans making ring adjustments. ?I ask buyers with time to try somewhere else. ?***There are plenty of L.A. jewelry district businesses/employees that get top rankings without a one-star review.***
I am writing this review because diamonds are a girls best friend. Actually so are saphires and expensive watches and I just love them. I have shopped around the jewlery district quite a bit, but, I always seem to wind up buying at Capri. Most often I buy through Gary or one young guy. Can’t remember his name right now.I recommended a family member ?who bought a beatiful one and one half carot D color engagement ring for his daughter in law to be in China. She just loved it. I bought a Cartier watch and ?a blue saphire ring ( With a little bit of male help ). I get huge complements on the ring-even from strangers. Most importantly, Gary spends lots of time explaining the technical side of the business so you can get the best value for your money. Capri is on the corner of 6th and hill . Try them out . You won’t be sorry!!!
The jewelry district downtown can be a dizzying experience. I came here for a nice watch and this shop was the most helpful, they will also work with you on engagement rings and other Jewelry. I talked to Chris Body jewelry, who was a younger guy and one of the owners and he was rad. They also do jewelry for some of the lakers and other sports figures.
It would be too easy to write another great review for the folks over at Capri, so I’ll try not to spend too much time writing about how awesome their service is, their vast knowledge of diamonds and their massive inventory and accessibility to pieces that you’re looking for, or how quickly the turn around time is. ?That’s all already been said in all of the other reviews. ?The main thing I want to emphasize here is that it’s close to impossible to find a jeweler you can trust, especially given how overwhelming the whole experience the downtown wholesale district can be -but you can find that trust at Capri.Gary, Claude and Chris all have exceptional sincerity when servicing your needs. ?My particular experience comes with Chris. ?My husband and I first met him 5 years ago, in our search for the perfect engagement ring -perfect meaning “as good as possible specs, within our price range”. ?We had tried several other jewelers through other referrals, but none seemed to have what we were looking for, or satisfied our requirements ?(not to mention high pressure and just not so good of a feeling/experience). ?After weeks of surfing the net and reading multiple positive reviews on Chris, we decided to give him a try. ?We’ve never since been to any other jeweler, and like many of the other yelpers here, we have found our jeweler for life. ?With so much patience, Chris went above and beyond to pull out pieces that fit our specific requirements. ?We told him the price point, plus the 4Cs in order of priority. ?It was a done deal. ?We picked the stone, picked the setting, and had it fitted and set all in one afternoon. ?Even after having had it professionally appraised for insurance purposes, I could not believe the deal we got. ?We were beyond pleased and have obviously since gone back for our other jewelry needs. ?I have, for the last 5 years, referred dozens of friends and family to them, all of whom have come back overwhelmingly happy, and thankful for my referral. ?Chris remembers us every time we go in, so it’s a very personal, rather than your typical “just make the sale, and forget it” experience. ?It’s a family run business, and those are the types of businesses I like to support, because they care more about customer satisfaction. They strive to gain your loyalty. ?If you want the best service in town, the best value for your diamond needs, and most importantly, a jeweler you can trust, visit Chris (or Claude or Gary) at Capri. They will absolutely take care of you. ?Especially given that Los Angeles and New York City are the only two true “diamond wholesale districts” in the nation, you’d be silly not to take advantage of the accessibility. ?And since I just broke it down for you, you’d be silly to go any where else.

If you have ever been to the Jewelry Mart you know what a crazy nightmare it can be, there are thousands of Jewelers all wanting you to buy from them. ?In the midst of that craziness there is a wonderful place called Elias Fine Jewelry. ?It is a family business, they have been there for years and years and years…. It is Jack, his wife Jacqueline, son John and daughter Jane. ?They are truly some of the nicest people I have ever done business with. ?They are extremely accomodating, their quality is great and prices extremely competitive. ?If you are looking for that special piece of jewelry ?this really is the place to go. ?If you already have something in mind bring a ?picture they can make anything. ?Really, I’m not kidding – go there – their amazing!Logistically – they are at the corner of 6th and Hill… Enter on Hill St the second door and walk straight down, they are on the left (like 3 or 4 stalls in).
I reluctantly did the ‘dead man walking’ shuffle into the Jewelry mart last week to do the deed with my beautiful Stainless Steel Necklaces, determined and closet passive aggressive fiance. We strategically split up, she headed for one corner while I floundered around like a mullet out of water…that’s when I accidentally bumped into Jacqueline of Elias fine jewelery…she just stood there without a sound and she had this all knowing, peaceful aura about her that made me feel safe. We talked, she backed up and said ‘take a look”..no pressure..I was looking for a Jade men’s wedding band..set in white gold size 12…..I left with the most beautiful white gold with tribal design rope inlay between smooth layered shiny bands…hand made and perfect artistry…I am so in love with it, no pressure, great value and unique, cannot say thank you enough for my lovely ring…muah! Will I be back…Nope….I never thought I’d want another wedding ring ever again…this one makes me feel brand new….
Patient. ?Appears to be sincere. ?Friendly. ?Willing to spend time to help you make the right purchase. ?Good pricing. ?Good people. ?Great products. ?And full of knowledge and willingness to share. ?Good experience. ?Tell them I sent you =p
After, literally years of searching and working with a couple of other jewelers, and having bad experiences, I had almost lost hope. Recently I decided to head to the Jewelry Mart in Downtown LA – which can be a nightmare because there are literally hundreds of jewelers and it can be overwhelming. After perusing the various buildings/spaces in the JM for over an hour, I met the lovely people at Elias Fine Jewelry. It’s a family business – originally I met and worked with Jack and his wife Jacqueline. Both of them are extremely nice, patient Pearl jewelry, and understanding. Also, very willing work with you to find exactly what you’re looking for. We ended up having them make a new wedding band for my husband. When it was complete, we went there and met John and Jane (their son and daughter). They are honestly some of the nicest people I have ever done business with. I walked away from the counter that evening KNOWING that A) I couldn’t be any happier with the entire transaction, B) I HAVE to share this with people, and C) I will DEFINITELY be back there. Anyone looking for a special jewelry piece, NEEDS to go there. They simply have the best customer service around. Their prices are extremely competitive. If you are looking for that special piece of jewelry this really is the place to go.
This is why I love Yelp. It gives the power back to the consumer. If yelp had a no stars option that’s what I would give Elias Fine Jewelry. But I guess they undeservedly will get one star from me. I bought my engagement ring here and was in love with the design and the cut of the diamond. The price was what I was looking for and I left happy and stared at my ring and adored it everyday. Until maybe a month or so later I sat down at my desk at work and like I always do I looked down at my ring, but this time I saw a hole, there was a hollow spot where my beautiful diamond had been. I panicked. I was frantic looking everywhere. I combed the entire building pearl earrings, I retraced my steps for hours and nothing, no diamond. After I realized I was looking for a needle in a haystack I immediately went downtown to explain the situation to Elias Fine Jewelers. I spoke with John, I had tears running down my face. I mistakenly thought they would stand behind their workmanship and product and be able to make my ring whole again. To my disappointment and surprise John basically shrugged his shoulders and asked if I had gotten insurance. Not being one who buys fine jewelry very often I hadn’t realized this was the norm and replied no I did not insure the ring. He basically had the attitude that it was not his problem and I should have insured it. I was shocked. He gave me a business card for an insurance company and well… I’m going to leave it to your imagine what he suggested I do next. He put a cubic zirconium in place of the diamond just in case I needed it. I am not out to get people shut down or anything so I’ll just leave it at that. Here I had paid a couple thousand dollars for a product and when it’s faulty, which is no fault of my own, I don’t expect to be the one paying the price for it. I went home still in shock. My husband even called to try and speak with them and received the same response. About a week or so later my husband and I went back downtown hoping to get the diamond replaced. We went back to Elias Fine Jewelers hoping they would at the very least give us a good deal on a replacement diamond. Spoke with John again and again we were disappointed. They were going to charge us MORE for a diamond than what we had originally paid!!! I argued with him for a moment stating the case of a business should stand behind it’s product. He replies with “how am I supposed to know you’re not running your hands through the dirt all day and that’s why it fell out” Really?? Only a little over a month and the diamond just pops out. I work in an office all day, it’s not like I’m doing construction. How about this, how about you guys made a defective ring (which by the way two small stones on the band had fallen out previously) and refuse to own up to it. In my eyes Elias Fine Jewelers cared more about money than their customers. Every opportunity I have to tell family and friends about my story I do. I do not have a lot of money to throw around so I ended going with a gold band for my wedding ceremony (from a different jeweler downtown) because I refuse to walk down the isle with a cubic zirconium for a ring. I loved that ring. ?I was and still am heartbroken over the situation. I plan on replacing the diamond one day once I have some money saved. I will never will go to Elias Fine Jewelers again.
Today I got up the courage to go in search of a setting for a Blue Topaz I purchased ten years ago! ?In the past I have avoided the jewelry mart, it left me feeling overwhelmed and intimidated, but my budget demanded I go where the deals are. ?I visited one store which had a good Yelp review but when they heard how little I had to spend, they didn’t give me the time of day. ?That’s when I wandered across the street and found Elias Fine Jewelry. ?Jane was so helpful. ?She understood my budget and showed me settings that were within it. ?I happened to fall in love with a setting that was out of my budget and she met me half way. ?I am now the owner of a gorgeous ring! ?Elias is a family owned business run mostly by Jane and John. ?They’re real people who you can trust and talk to. ?If you’ve been scared to tackle the jewelry mart – you now have a dealer who will work with you and who you can rely on – so fear no more!

Lots of one of a kind jewelry. ?This place is a hidden gem! ?The staff is very friendly and helpful. The selection is very impressive and I found several things that I loved at first sight. The quality of each designer is very high, and the prices are very reasonable.
I met Julio through my partner after he had 2 beautiful Gold & Diamond wedding bands designed and custom made by Julio. The pieces he has in his boutique are custom one of a kind that grab your eyes and in the case of the bands melt your heart.Julio is modest in his abilities and such a sweetheart to talk to. He shows genuine interest in your ideas and makes subtle suggestions to make your imaginations come alive. His shop is definitely worth the time to stop and take a look at and you will walk away glad that you did.
This is my all time favorite jewelry store in LA! ?I’ve been shopping here since it was Cake jewelry and it’s only gotten better with timel! ?I’m an Image Consultant and no matter the taste, or style of my client I can always find the perfect thing for them at Artisan LA. ?The quality of each designer is very high, and the prices are very reasonable. ?I personally own many pieces from this store and get compliments every time I’m wearing one. ?If you haven’t been yet, go, you don’t know what you’re missing!
With economy being as it is I decided I was only going to support local business. ?Artisan LA Jewelry carries handmade jewelry from local artists. You can’t get better than that. There is a nice variety of styles and materials to choose from. ?I was able to find a lovely pair of one of a kind earrings that was within my budget and have received many compliments on them when I wear them which is often.Check it out…you won’t be disappointed.
Artisan LA is a gem of a jewelry store which stands out as a home for independent custom designers and vintage collections. ?Julio is so nice and passionate about jewelry and together we designed a beautiful engagement ring. ?I was very happy with my experience there and would recommend Artisan LA to anyone looking for a special, personalized experience.
Julio, the owner, is an incredible artist. ?He worked on the engagement ring for my fiance in 2010. ?I had a vague idea of what I wanted and Julio, based on my vague statements and hand-waving was able to sketch out and make the perfect design (a ring in the shape of an abstract rose) Stainless Steel Necklaces! We met about 10 times leading up to my engagement as he was working on the ring, showing me various sketches, models Body jewelry, and then casts. ?I was probably one of his more difficult clients, but Julio was always professional, accommodating and pleasant. ?His pricing is fair, reasonable, and transparent. I wholeheartedly recommend Julio for any custom work. ?The store also has hundreds of unique and original pieces and is a pleasure to browse.
The Jewelry in this store is unique and beautiful and reasonably priced. I have several pieces I love from there, and wear on a daily basis. When my diamond fell out of my wedding ring for the second time, I decided it was time for a redesign. Julio worked with us to design the perfect ring, and was able to use the gold and diamond so that it was affordable. He had great suggestions, and really helped us to come up with a ring that is more beautiful than I could have imagined!I cannot recommend them enough.
Excellent selection, competitive prices and courteous service all in one shopping experience.
Julio was a dream to work with! Of course we waited to get my fiancee’s ring last minute, and went into Artisan LA hoping we’d find something great. ?Julio was there and we discussed him making a ring for us – this was a Thursday night and by Saturday afternoon, it was ready! It’s gorgeous and exactly what we wanted. And the price couldn’t be more than reasonable. ?Julio is so sweet, patient and obviously, great with deadlines. ?I can’t wait to go back to have more jewelry made by Julio!
My fiance had my wedding ring made here. ?He was looking to find me a “contemporary” ring, yet he found them all to look like some sort of weapon, which he knew I hated. My fiance has been buying my Christmas and birthday gifts (ear rings & bracelets) from Artisan LA Jewelry (when it was just [fka] Cake) since we’ve been together. ?So there is a history. ?Julio understood my fiance’s distress and suggested a custom ring. ?I now have the most beautiful antique Art Deco remake that is PERFECT! ?I had absolutely no part in selecting the ring or design at all whatsoever. ?From our history of purchases pearl earrings, Julio was able to understand my taste and suggest something perfect for me. When I went to have my ring properly sized (it was a bit too small) I met the man responsible for my wedding ring. ?We chatted for almost 30 minutes. ?The customer service here is amazing. ?My fiance and I will be returning to get our wedding bands from here as well. :o )
My wife and I bought our wedding bands from here – Julio who runs the place was really welcoming from the off and worked with us to design what we wanted. ?He was then very patient and understanding when we had my ring resized twice and both of them rhodium plated. ?I can’t recommend this place enough.
On Saturday my husband, daughter and I went into artisan la jewelry we looked around at all the amazing jewelry and Julio even had toys for my daughter to play with. In the end we hand picked a stone that Julio will be custom making a ring for me with. Additionally, we picked out my daughters birthsones and he is going to be setting them into child size screw on studs for her. I’m so excited to see the finished products. Julio you are a gem to work with. I highly recommend this store for anyone shopping for original and unique pieces of jewelry. Thanks Julio, we will be back!
Great store! ?Full of amazing artisan work by local designers and a few hand picked artists from around the state and country. ?I just got the news there will be a side walk sale April 16 and 17 that I cannot wait to end up at.
Such a wide selection of styles, and I love that I’m supporting artists.
